i had the same problem when trying to use a massmailer i wrote (just a quick
and dirty script)

there was a char in my msg that told sendmail it was the EOF, so try playing
with that

Verify that your operating system is not configured to limit the maximum
number of processes running under the same userid low enough to interfere
with this test.
