[EMAIL PROTECTED] is a regular account, no different than anything you'll find in the passwd file.  The only thing that's unique to it is that its .courier files run some program that handles incoming mail.  couriermlm is no different than any other program one might invoke from a .courier file.
Therefore, as any ordinary program running under the userid/groupid assigned to the [EMAIL PROTECTED] account, it is highly unlikely that it will be able to do much with files or directories that are owned by some other userid/groupid.

Here's what's happening and what isn't.
I set up the list "avr-chat" in /home/dvanhorn/avr-chat, then set up the digest list at /home/dvanhorn/avr-chat/digest.
I set the .courier files ".courier-avr-chat" with the command as it should be, in /home/dvanhorn...and set up all the other .courier files in the same directory.  I also set up the hourly and daily cron jobs.

I sent a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED], and I got nothing back.  The "maillog" file shows that Courier delivered the message....so I looked around in the list directory.  In checking ./avr-chat/tmp/ I find help.webmaster=insw.org, so it looks as though couriermlm processed the request, but didn't send the help message back to me.  I got the same situation with a subscription try, the message is sitting in ./avr-chat/commands, and apparently not going anywhere.

When I created the lists using couriermlm, I did so as the user "dvanhorn", which is the user account that mail for dvanhorn.org goes to.  There must be something I'm not doing right....any idea what that might be?
