Hello:
Thanks for getting back to me. I am new to linux so some of the terminology is new to me as well. I attempted to make my own RPM'a and it failed. Before I attempted to do this the ONLY user on the RH 7.2 server install computer wa ROOT. I am the only user on all the systems so I really never bothered to make a new USER / GROUP so I really dont understand all of it and how to do it This is what I did. After reading this "build the RPM's as a normal user, making sure that the user in question has read/write privileges to /usr/src/redhat" - I thought if I would make a new user with the same exact settings as ROOT everything would work out 1. I went to Programs => System => User Manager 2. Made a user named courier with a group courier and initial home directory of /home/courier 3. gave it the exact settings as user ROOT, meaning selected the same groups to belong to as ROOT 4. Changed courier's home directory to /root (again trying to give it the same settings as root) 5. dl courier to /home/courier 6. [courier@pac10fans root]$ cd /home/courier [courier@pac10fans courier]$ rpm -ta courier-0.37.2.20020215.tar.gz error: Failed to rename /usr/src/redhat/SPECS/rpm-spec.SOS8KZ to /usr/src/redhat/SPECS/rpm-spec.SOS8KZ: Permission denied: No such file or directory So since I am the only user I really dont know how to make a proper user especially for courier and without knowing that I wont be able to install it Hopefully someone will be kind enough and walk me thorough the steps Thank you for your time and patience and look forward to using courier ----- Original Message ----- From: "Juha Saarinen" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "M.B." <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, February 15, 2002 9:13 PM Subject: Re: [courier-users] Courier RPM's Please > On Fri, 15 Feb 2002, M.B. wrote: > > > I was advised to use Courier but after reading that Install (WOW) file > > I m scared to touch it.
