That makes sense. I moved an old message from one folder to another via
the operating system, then checked the courierimapuiddb file after
creating a new IMAP session. Sure enough, the old message was listed
with a higher UID.

I can't seem to recreate this circumstance through IMAP, though.
Regargless of the IMAP client I use (I've tried two), "moving" a message
from one folder to another actually creates a new message file in the
target folder, with the present timestamp.

I would swear that nobody was on the server that day moving this
person's files around manually. Also, this person is working on an IMAP
client of his own. I don't see anything in the RFC specific to moving
messages between folders, but is there a way that this could have
happened using IMAP commands?

Thank you for your time.
