Hello all.

Today a user reported to me that some of his messages were being listed
out of chronological order. When I checked his mail directories, I
discovered this little snippet in the courierimapuiddb folder for his
inbox:

   52 1014948534.12705.mx-three.iatdev.com,S=2210
   53 1015004369.27306.mx-two.iatdev.com,S=2783
   54 985846983.31778.mx-three.iatdev.com,S=4823
   55 986256199.27275.mx-three.iatdev.com,S=632
   56 986484473.21945.mx-three.iatdev.com,S=1210
   57 986830596.14570.mx-three.iatdev.com,S=2743
   58 987053298.2908.mx-one.iatdev.com,S=82392
   59 988330172.21458.mx-one.iatdev.com,S=1120
   61 992973069.8717.mx-three.iatdev.com,S=1014
   62 996017909.16559.mx-three.iatdev.com,S=837
   63 996126775.2206.mx-three.iatdev.com,S=14372
   64 1015358440.15832.mx-three.iatdev.com,S=4659
   65 1015358651.16535.mx-three.iatdev.com,S=5628
   66 1015360056.28842.mx-two.iatdev.com,S=8834
   67 1015427181.24335.mx-three.iatdev.com,S=7910

The messages with UIDs 54 through 63 are out of order! The timestamps
of the files containing these messages are still correct. The UID of
the folder (the first line of the file) is 1015290680, which means the
message UIDs were last reset right between the timestamps of messages 53
and 60, meaning that these munged UIDs happened during the last reset.

Any idea what could have caused this, and how to prevent it? I'm
running version Courier IMAP 1.3.7. I have since downloaded
1.4.3.20020315 and looked at its ChangeLog, but I didn't see anything
obvious.

Thank you.
