I'm using only authuserdb.

Userdb has only virtual users. All of the virtual users have
home=/var/maildirs/<username> and mail=/var/maildirs/<username>/Maildir
defined. They have the same uid and guid. The homedir of this uid is
/home/mailuser.
I've already tried if maildrop is lookingfor a .mailfilter file in
/home/mailuser - negative.

Should courier fail to start if .../etc/courierd is missing or if it has
illeagal lines? I moved this file just to test what courier is going to do.
It started anyway. I was wondering if maybe my build of courier somehow
ignores the file courierd. But it uses all other files - why should it fail
on this one.

Regards
Manfred

p.s. I left my office and I'm now at home. I will check e-mail from time to
time an try your suggestions. It's now 10:40 p.m. and I'm sure to give up at
about 11:30.

p.p.s. There are duplicates of some files ending with .dist in .../etc. For
what are these?
