There is an additional Button called "Purge" (or "Entfernen" in german
Versions).
In the top row of OE you see "New Message", "Reply", "Reply All",....
Quite at the end (before IMAP-Folders) is the Purge Button.
After you have lined out the messages hit this button and they get deleted.

Additionally there is the option to auto-delete messages after you leave the
folder.
You have to search in the preferences>options to achieve this.
I think I saw something like this once.
