Some Operating Systems (and Distributions) work better on specific platforms.
I have found OpenBSD to be very good for SUN systems. If OpenBSD had suppport fot the Enterprise 3000, I would recommend it. But, it does not seem to. http://www.openbsd.org/sparc64.html#hwdocs As for Linux, I have only found 2 distributions that have Enterprise 3000 support: Debian Suse http://www.google.com/search?q=%22enterprise+3000%22++linux&hl=en&lr= > Remember that Sun's stuff will never be as fast as Linux, just much more > expensive and have nicer boxes ;-). Does Solaris 8 allow you to recompile the kernel ? If it does, you may need recompile it to maximize multiprocessor preformance. If not, I look for a performance patch for your multiprocessor system. http://www.google.com/search?q=%22enterprise+3000%22++solaris+performance+p atch&hl=en&lr= http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=multiprocessor+patch+solaris&spell =1 Theodore Knab ------------------------- Washington College Chestertown, Maryland, USA [Unix] Systems Engineer x7419 _______________________________________________________________ Don't miss the 2002 Sprint PCS Application Developer's Conference August 25-28 in Las Vegas - http://devcon.sprintpcs.com/adp/index.cfm?source=osdntextlink _______________________________________________ courier-users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/courier-users
