As for authdaemond not working after an LDAP outage - I've noticed that too
on occasion in the past, but not investigated in any depth (mainly because
switching over manually to the second LDAP server requires an authdaemond
restart anyway)

I haven't noticed this issue explicitly in the ChangeLog, although a few
months ago there was something about backend connections now being dropped
after 5 minutes of inactivity. Conceivably that might help it to recover
after an outage.
