It's not even enabled by default. If you don't like it, don't use it.
Case in point- The rework of the mail file naming to be more unique went
into effect once a real problem was identified.and still, there is no POP3-file-size encoded in the filename.
Right. The POP3 file size is now saved elsewhere.
