Ok, seems the thread started by me a few days ago got missed. I had about the same problem, and mainly got lost because I couldn't get more debug info. My MySQL log shows the query actually happens. authtest just gives me 'Temporary failure from authdaemon'. The courier log just says 'LOGIN FAILED'. I haven't yet tried 'authinfo', but I'd be very happy for more hints on debugging as well.
