I have several reasons for using something other than Courier-MTA, but I don't think it's appropriate to list them here (and hence here is probably not a good place to ask that question :-) Why am I on this list anyway? I use courier-imap and sqwebmail, and IMO they are very good for their particular functions, the best available at the moment. If there were a separate list for those packages, I would be on it.
