Something else which bit me tonight, actually as a result of backing out of a test scenario for what we just discussed.
I realised that a .courier-default containing a single blank line causes the delivery to simply vanish. I suppose it is being interpreted as a blank delivery instruction, hence, discard the mail without notice. Is
