The difference is that with greylisting, you keep track of the know good
senders. So only the first e-mail to/from a particular person coming
through a particular mailserver is delayed.
My concern about implementing greylisting -- which in all other respects
is a very reasonable approach -- is that it breaks the (inaccurate but
widely prevalent) notion that email is an instantaneous medium.
Further, I'd guess it doesn't deal with VERPs, especially mailing list
VERPs well -- if the envelope sender is new on each piece of email, all
messages will be delayed.
