That's a fair enough response to #2, but a documented bofh file would be
mighty handy.  Indeed, many distributions /already/ do this, but why
make extra work on their part?  Sadly, the home-grown distro I run
doesn't yet do this, as I am loathe to diverge from upstream whenever
possible. 

In line with my request, what *are* the available options?
