Well, ignoring the substance of the processing you want to do on the 
message(s), the most important aspect would seem to be how to find the 
messages to process, yes? Well, if you're using Maildirs, it's extremely 
easy. Assuming that you were sending these messages to a specific 
mailbox, you would simply have your jobs look at the base Maildir (say 
$HOME/Maildir for the simple case where the mailbox is owned by a real 
user) in the "new" and/or "cur" subdirectory. If you didn't also have a 
POP, IMAP, or web-based client accessing the mailbox, then presumptively 
all the interesting messages would be in "new". And since each email is 
a separate file by definition... well, the rest seems pretty darn simple.

Complications could arise if you were adding some of the virtual 
features for mailbox references... but the basic structure of the 
Maildir (once found) is completely the same.

in processing the email some info is extracted and put into a database.
