This usually means that the Maildir that you specified in the "mail="
attribute doesn't exist (or isn't a maildir). Did you create
"/home/vmail/Maildir-jacko-localhost" using the 'maildirmake' utility? You
can't just create a regular folder here - it needs to be a maildir. (It also
needs to be owned by the the uid for this account.) Try making the maildir
and see if that solves your problem.

On another note you may want to leave the "mail'" attribute off completely in
your userdb. If you specify it then mail will ALWAYS be delivered there -
you can't use maildrop for filtering and delivering mail. If you don't
specify a "mail=" then courier will automatically deliver to a maildir called
"Maildir" inside the home directory . This is a much more flexible approach
and will save you trouble later if you try to get any sort of filtering
working with courier.

So in this case you could make "home=/home/vmail/jacko-localhost" (or whatever
you want, of course) and then mail will be delivered to
"/home/vmail/jacko-localhost/Maildir". You'll need to manually create the
"/home/vmail/jacko-localhost" directory and then use maildirmake to create
"/home/vmail/jacko-localhost/Maildir". Make sure the whole thing is owned by
the uid which courier will use to deliver mail here. Maildirmake will get
all the permissions set up properly on the maildir but, obviously, you need
to either run it as the proper user or chown the maildir after.
