Thanx John, that works out the issue. But it also raises a question. Now that I specify --with-piddir=/var/run/courier, shouldn't all the pid files be placed into /var/run/courier. On my system only the courierfilter.pid file is placed there.
--with-piddir is not documented in INSTALL; neither is it listed by ./configure --help.
This is a helper option that enabled a single set of configuration scripts to be shared between courier, courier-imap, and sqwebmail.
This is an internal option, for internal use option.
You should be using --localstatedir instead.
