I agree that a straightforward 'purge' button would be a really handy
feature.

The 'smarter-than-thou' approach to software design, which says that the
designer doesn't think you're mature enough to handle a 'delete' button
which actually deletes things is a very Microsoft sort of an attitude, and
it doesn't work in any case: the act of doing whatever ritual is necessary
to purge a deleted thing becomes habit like changing gears in a manual car.
You aren't even aware that you've done it, but it wasted a bit of your time
anyway.

I know that it's tantamount to mentioning satan on a christian newsgroup,
but I would point out that Mr Crispin's 'pine' has a one-key purge which
works from within a folder view. It's not a revolutionary feature for an
IMAP reader.
