Check and see if you have the files:
/usr/lib/courier/libexec/courier/modules/esmtp/authend /usr/lib/courier/libexec/courier/modules/esmtp/authstart
If you do then you have what you need to do authenticated smtp. If you find those files then follow the instructions in my previous email and see if it works.
If your courier 'etc' directory is not "/etc/courier" then it could also be "/usr/lib/courier/etc". You'll have to look around. But you do have a courier 'etc' directory somewhere or else courier wouldn't work.

No. Courier replaces sendmail.
| 2) Does Courier 0.48 | (http://www.courier-mta.org/beta/courier/courier-0.48.tar.bz2) have all the | components I need or do I have to download separated packages like courier | authentication library ??
That tar.bz2 file has everything that you need.
| 3) Why is mandatory to build RPM packages as non-root ??
For security. The FAQ has instructions on how to do this. It's ALWAYS a good idea to build anything as a local user. Only use root to install.
