You can also increase the number of threads you can connect to the IMAP system. Put something like: MAXDAEMONS=40 into your imap config file.

Agreed. It's also handy to have multiple command threads when you want to do something like run a Search and do other email things while that's running, for example.


What's curious is that I had already set MAXDAEMONS=40 in the IMAP configuration file for Courier. And I was still experiencing problems.


Why would setting MAXDAEMONS have any affect on the MAXPERIP setting? It's MAXPERIP that interacts with Thunderbird's "Number of Server Connections to Cache" setting. My bad for missing this in my first reply, as I was just focused on the number.
