All, I've been lurking, and using courier personally for a few years. I'm building my first professional / corporate install of courier now, and I've got somewhat higher security requirements to worry about.
I've got a number of things working great at this point - SSL for all transports, LDAP for all authentication, ClamAV and Spamassasin integrated. The one place I'm having trouble with is authenticated esmptd. If I set AUTH_REQUIRED=1 in emstpd-ssl, then outside MTAs can't send me e-mail, and my Thunderbird clients fail as well. Thunderbird complains that authentication is required, but even though I've told it to use authentication and provided it with a user name, Thunderbird never prompts for a password. My goal is to have Thunderbird (and other MUAs) require a username and password to send mail, but for other MTAs to be able to deliver mail to us without requiring authentication.
