Hi all

we have problems with Courier-IMAP 4.1.3 and FAM 2.7.0 . The courier
it's self compiled with FAM support.
We have approx. 200 simultaneous users and we use postfix MTA with
virtual mailboxes (One UID/GID).
For all users one famd process will be spawn, after a while this process
eats a lot of memory and then later also swap space up to the whole
swap space.

Mostly the famd process dies sometimes and the clients are getting
confused about new mail ...

I tried to trace the famd with -v and -d options but I got only ******
famqueue overflow ****** messages.

The development of FAM died 2003, so what is the best opportunity for
this problem:

-switch off the fam and the enhanced IDLE functions (slow ?)
-using of gamin as file alteration monitor ? (sill beta ? is there a
stable development ? )
- ...?

what are your experiences ?

Thanks Gregor
