I have the idea that this is probably not courier but after a couple of days chasing it with no luck. I'm going to ask.
This machine has few simultaneous connections, I have TCPDOPTS="-stderrlogger=/usr/local/sbin/courierlogger -noidentlookup -nodnslookup" just in case. It is courier 54 on FreeBSD up to date current and just started about 48 hours ago. It takes almost 30 seconds for esmtpd to connect. Even with a telnet localhost 25 is the same. It is almost as if I had a built in delay. Out of desperation, I have even opened the firewall for testing and no effect. I am now drawing a blank.
