Starting the esmtpd server is a separate step. See INSTALL.

Check that you can use telnet to connect to port 25 on your mail server, from the external host. If you can't, check that the esmtpd server is started; check and disable any firewalls.

I use apt-get install to install courier so i dot know where the install
file are loctaed
