Hello,

We're using 'courier-0.60.0.20081102' and have an issue (small one).

I've pretty much tried every combination of backscatter suppression option(s)
and the BOFH settings in an effort to settle out my two (2) system service.

We are using a smarthost relay (courier) to an Authenticated Only user mail
system (courier). The smarthost relays across the LAN on port 587, and
OpenBSD's pf handles all the blocking of that from anywhere but allowed
machines. Frankly the two, in combination work great!

However, this relatively new backscatter suppression feature is causing
quite a bit of work for me where I frequently have to issue a
'courier clear <[email protected]> ' on our user account server.

Examining the logfiles on the smarthost ... where the un-authenticated
smtp mail first arrives, I see instances where some bogus / spam / spoof
crap has come in, and the server does not forward it to the user's account
on the real mta. That's the good part.

However, that user will wind up in the 'LIST' and subsequent emails
for him will get bounced with the good old "556 Address unavailable."
And, he is in the blaclklist for at least the 2 hours spec'd in the docs.

Since it's not his fault, and I don't want to spend my time clearing
such instances...

Just what exact combination of backscatter settings in 'couried' and in 'bofh' (as explained in the docs.) do folks use to minimize these false blacklisting of real users?

Thanks,

Randy
