The problem with using hyphens, of course, is that last names, and therefore usernames, are commonly hyphenated, which could lead to confusion or to emails intended for one user being delivered to another user. Is there any way to make this character configurable (to use the plus sign, rather than the hyphen, for instance)? Or even, if necessary, to change the character used for this somewhere in the source code before compiling?
No, there is no single switch. There are a lot of dependencies on the established naming scheme, for example couriermlm.
