Indeed.So any DNS reply that contains one of these fails to validate RFC 1035's grammar, and is ill-formed.
When a reply is ill-formed, no assurances can be made that some parts of it could be interpreted, or salvaged. Discarding the entire reply as a malformed, unprocessable reply, is not unreasonable.
