SQLite is one of the backends supported by odbx.  See the list in
http://www.linuxnetworks.de/doc/index.php/OpenDBX/C_API/odbx_init

That library doesn't allow access to backend-specific calls, such as
mysql_ping, though...  Did anybody try it?
