The client has to do something more than simply being connected, in
order for messages to be moved from new to cur.  I guess it has to list
the folder content.

I hope Sam chimes in with more precise info.  I had this problem myself
[Stealthy mail delivering] but gave up, considering the effort to write
a possibly complicated script not worth the minor nuisance that it would
avoid.
