The IKEA desks that CitizenSpace and IndyHall both use are awesome for this.
We've had the hall configured a couple of different ways, both for open all
events as well as different work configurations. Having something modular is
clutch.

Also, regarding the coffee/cafe situation. I don't know what other people
have available but in Old City Philadelphia we are SURROUNDED by coffee
shops that roast their own beans. I envision something that goes like this:

IndyHall(or coworking site X) buys a weeks worth of roast from "Cafe
Whatsitcalled. They use that in their coffee pot for the week, put up a sign
that says "coffee from Cafe Whatsitcalled, p.s. it's great here but its even
better there because it's fresher!". Then, have a deal with that Cafe that
they put up signs that say "here to work for the day? go check out indyhall.
They have a better work environment, AND they have our coffee, too!"

This kind of mutually beneficial relationship where we advertise AND buy
product from them, helping them with their seat turnover problems as well as
providing a pool of use/new customers for BOTH businesses, is sustainable (I
think, anyway, haven't had a chance to get to fully execute this).

We are about to kick off a relationship with Philly Car Share, as well, a
local and nonprofit car sharing service (like ZipCar, who is also here).
Philly Car Share has succeeded WIDELY due to their integration of community
into their product, so I'm SUPER excited about the relationship that is
about to be built. More on that as things develop, we'll be sure to share
our experiences.

I'd be curious what kinds of other sustainable partnerships other groups are
considering, how you're working with local businesses to "keep it local"?
