Hmmm, my understanding is that if a nonprofit "rents out" its permit to
another organization or use its nonprofit bulk mail status for anything
other than the exempt educational/charitable purpose, it can lose that
discount, so I'd be rather surprised if it does paid mailings using that
permit on behalf of corporations. Unless the rules have been dramatically
liberalized during recent administrations...
That said, I'd like to further encourage the community group - coworking
connection. I've helped several Bay Area coworking sites host events for
local groups, which can turn into a win-win situation in terms of
visibility/outreach for the coworking space (and sometimes even
income/fees), and definitely helps the group. The trick, I've found, is to
have enough exposure / depth of connection with both the coworking place and
the group to translate between the cultures. If someone in the group isn't a
keyholder / manager / staff of the coworking site, then physical presence of
someone trusted is essential. Groups need context to understand the
difference between a paid/corporate meeting site and the ad-hocracy of much
coworking, and sometimes help to make sure that their impacts are
minimized... and coworking places sometimes need communications help to make
sure that all members are consulted/notified, not just whoever happens to be
in the office at the time.

Raines
who grew up doing bulk mailings for the New England Apple Tree, Newton Apple
Kids, and other groups, so grew to appreciate the power of zip codes and
their arrangement.
