Mike,

Welcome to the discussion. I live on the "other side" of DC down in
Fredericksburg. Me and my business partner have been interested in
the coworking concept for the last year and really began to get
serious about it March/April of this year. I can tell you from
experience it's a lot of work and you must have a passion for it.
Spend some time looking through everyone's website to get some ideas.
Then begin talking up the idea up there. Join the chamber, go to some
meetups, craigslist the idea, blog the idea. NETWORK, NETWORK,
NETWORK. I would welcome you to come down and see our place in
Fredericksburg and would be happy to spend time with you so you can
get an idea of how it works, the costs, etc...

Now to answer your question about coworking in the suburbs. There is
a need for it. However without a doubt it is harder (IMHO) to get the
word out in the burbs. I was visiting a customer by the airport up in
Leesburg last week and then went to lunch at Panera Bread There must
have been at least 25 people in there on their laptop, and I know all
the Coffeeshops up there are packed to the gills. Those people are
there maybe for the internet, but more likely cause they are craving
contact with people. The problem is getting the word out and
converting those people into paying members.

Theres lots of good info/ideas in the group and lots of ideas on other
folks websites that should give you an idea. Here's a link to an
article that ran in our "local" paper this past Saturday.
http://fredericksburg.com/News/FLS/2008/112008/11152008/425347 I can't
tell you how big of a deal that was to us. Visits to our website in
the last 5 days have exceeded the total number of visits we had in
October!

Again feel free to call me, email me or stop by anytime!

Paul
