Hello All! I'm Todd O'Neill and we have launched C4 Workspace, the first full time coworking space in San Antonio, Texas. I've been a member of this group for a long time but have been pretty quiet and, frankly, feeling like I haven't contributed enough. So I'm poking my head up to say "Hello", I'm here, and plan to get more active. C4 Workspace came about by a challenge a friend mounted: to open a coworking space in 2009. I've been coworking casually since 2007, full time once a week since January 2008 and talking about a full time space in town since I spoke with Julie Gomoll (Launchpad, Austin) about coworking in the summer of 2007. The idea of coworking just seemed naturally right. It also fit where I was personally. I'm at least a decade older than most of the coworking space catalysts and owners I've met. But I plan to live another fifty years (see how I slipped that in?) and retirement just seems unrealistic from both a personal and professional standpoint. Coworking is the best way I can think of to work with creative and pragmatic people (some with the same attraction to shiny objects as I have) for a LONG time. It may not be the space we're opening this month but I expect to be in a coworking space for the rest of my working life. We have a tag line for C4 Workspace that I _think_ is original but is absolutely inspired by all the coworkers I've met online and in person (thank you SXSW). "A Sustainable Professional Community" So wish us luck! We open on May 1. The first Friday of the month is a big deal here in San Antonio. It's a kind of monthly "art walk" in our arts district, Southtown. And we are at the northern edge of that so we'll be partying into the wee hours. We are in a great neighborhood, a REAL neighborhood. I was in the space yesterday and two women on their morning constitutional were peering through the windows after reading our signs (with our guiding principles). I waved at them and they smiled big and gave me a thumbs up. A great way to start day and a new (ad)venture. Thanks to all and looking forward to being more involved!
