We (at The Hacker Dojo) went with small lockers to start (for our electronics hobbyists - so they don't have to put a sensitive arduino board in their backpack - we have a lot of bike riders ) and for very small items (though that may not be as practical as we thought. We figure if you can carry it out in a shopping bag then you should (unless it's breakable like I said) So we are going to repurpose our small lockers so they are larger and offer less of them. Don't have a huge amount of demand for them at the moment.
We are getting requests for larger lockers. We charge $30 for 6 months of usage of the ones we have now. Our overall philosophy is you bring it, you take it with you. We have some items on long-term loan (from our members) available on a first come, first serve basis (monitors and keyboards primarily) Our membership knows they are taking a risk leaving their equipment but do so anyway to support the community. For our members, paying a little extra for storage is fine (vs paying extra for membership for the privilege of using the lockers). It's not always a value add - let them pay a few bucks extra if they really need it. Run a pilot program or something and just get say 5 0r 10 lockers and see what people do... I love the cubicle idea - I may suggest that to our group.
