David, I had exactly the same concern as you when we were approached by a respected design agency and told that they would like to rent half of our coworking space. Luckily they started by organizing a few meetings in the space first so that we could secretly observe their attitude toward the our existing community, what we have learnt is rather disappointing: it seems that most of these people are under stress and very demanding at the same time. They didn't care much about our rules and social norms, either.
So I would strongly suggest that you take your own space. 2010/3/29 Ryan Price <[email protected]> > David, > > If you can get your community excited about colocating in an available > office space, I say go for it. > > Ultimately, your members may decide that the space won't work long-term, or > other factors may arise, but working there may give you and your coworkers > the opportunity to develop some history with each other, preferences, social > norms, etc that will help make your future home(s) even better. > > The fact that you're worried about protecting the ethos, and asking the > question, is probably a good sign. > > Peace, > Ryan Price > [email protected] > @liberatr > 407-484-8528 > > FloridaCreatives.com > Orlando Happy Hour: Apr 19th @ Crooked Bayou > Next Likemind: Apr 16th @ UrbanThink! > > BarCampOrlando.org > Saturday, April 3rd, 9-6 @ Wall St Plaza > Flash Mob Pillow Fight to follow @pillowlando > > > On Mar 26, 2010, at 9:37 AM, CoWorker wrote: > > Fellow co-workers, >> >> I'm in the throws of opening a space and have been knocking around >> this group for a while now.
