I think Angel's got a very valid point.
Simple sales law: AIDA. Attention. Interest. Decision. Action.
The first time around, there was a strong sense of urgency and "we
need your eyes on this issue now!", extreme interest from the
community, a decision which had already been made for you, and the
need to act right that very second before a very small and very real
window closed.
This time, I barely noticed the call to address this, my interest
level was "didn't we already deal with this?" (and I only clicked
through to read the details because I was killing time before a
conference call), the decision was murky ("Umm, I already put in. Do I
need to pledge again? That's totally confusing..."), and there wasn't
a strong call to action because there was plenty of time and no
consequence to inaction. The only reason I signed the pledge form
yesterday was because I finally joined this google group, read this
thread, and saw someone mention that barely anyone had signed the
pledge form and asked people to please step up.
In other words, there was no compelling reason to get off my ass to do
something about this. There's a *nice* reason to do something about
this (hey, we can all do this together now that there's no time
crunch, and everyone can be a part and pay less than originally), but
nice is not equal to compelling.
Or am I a raving lunatic?
