This doesn't make sense to me. We've had some pretty big parties, sponsored by 
a winemaker, a beer company and a local wine show, and heavily promoted as 
such. At the last one, along with the sponsored beer, we had a group of local 
home-brewers serving their concoctions. (I actually got arrested and taken into 
the copy shop during the last one, but not for serving alcohol!)

I had asked my insurance about it and they were totally cool as long as we 
weren't selling. And even in that case, it's fine as long as we would get the 
appropriate permits (a one-time liquor license, which is pretty easy to get in 
NY State).
