This looks like its going to turn into a nightmare ;-}  It looks in
the end like the changes in the core version are more than those in the
CPAN version from that which came with 5.6.1 -  Rob, did you take
the version that came with 5.6.0 and adapt that ?  At first glance it
doesnt look like the diffs can be automagically merged in any sensible
way - I know patch is clever but it isn't emacs ;-}

Colin, I have copied you in on this because it appears that you have made
the biggest changes to the core version and its really going to have to
come down to you and Rob collaborating to maintain a single version in the
end of the day ... whilst I don't think that this is going to be a
showstopper I think that it should be considered extremely desirable that
we have a single version of Net::Ping before 5.8.0 is released.

I will mediate if necessary ....
