This is a wonderful example of the Choate's
inability to engage in coherent discussion,
and to assume that any reference must be
to himself. It also demonstrates his
incompetence re cryptography.
The 'amusing claim' I refer to is the one made
by the PeopleLink folk that their product
uses "MD5 encryption". MD5 is a hash
algorithm, not an encryption algorithm. They
might as well have claimed to have
"SHA-1 encryption' or "CRC-32 encryption".
In other words, it is the purest of snake-oil.
I assumed that the Choate was aware of the
idiocy of this claim, which is a Crypto 101
level of blunder. I was much too generous.
Any future statements from the Choate
regarding cryptography must be viewed
in light of this demonstration of his
incompetence.
