Sajan,
That's great info. How would CR stations get DAVP to consider them for
broadcasting ads? Even at Rs 50 for 10 seconds (which would come to a measly Rs
300 for one minute), a regular run of DAVP ads would mean at least one stream
of revenue for struggling CR stations.

The possibility of political ads on CR stations is scary. It will completely
colour the content of the station, and give everything a political tone.

As far as I know, there are no DAVP (MIB) advertising rates for CRS.

There are no DAVP rates for most of the commercial FM channels, either. I
understand that DAVP had fixed the rates for FM Phase-I channels, and extended
the same to some of the new channels, but by and large they have been unable to
get a fix on listenership figures for most of the channels in FM Phase-II. This
will be a problem for CRS, too.

The DAVP rates given for some FM channels (2006-2007) are:

1. Radio City (Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore & Lucknow) - Rs. 300-750 for 10
seconds
2. Red FM (Delhi, Mumbai & Kolkata) - Rs. 300-450 ,,
,, ,, ,, ,,
 3. Suryan FM (Chennai, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli & Vishkhapatnam) - Rs. 225-900
,, ,,
4. Radio Mirchi (Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Indore & Ahmedabad) - Rs.
250-1200 ,,
5. Go 92.5 FM (Mumbai) - Rs. 100 ,,
 ,, ,, ,, ,, ,,

There's apparently a DAVP Empanelment Advisory Committee (EAC) for
advertisement rates for radio channels, and I guess the CR Forum will need to
take up this issue with EAC / DAVP. Considering that the lowest rate for an ad
on the smallest of AIR stations (Group V) is Rs.80 for 10 seconds, we could try
for something between Rs.50 and Rs.80 for a govt. advertisement on CRS.

Or am I being too optimistic?

Dear Sajan
We would be interested to know if IPRD ( MIB) has fixed any rate for
advertising govt. programmes for CRS.. Will it be different from the rate
provided for the commercial FM sations..This would help us in planning and cost
analysing the running of CRS.
