In the United States, The Movement is living in shadows. Nothing
symbolizes that more, than the so-called Shadow Convention 'protests'.
And standing in the shadow so as not to be seen, is none other than
Ralph Nader. Standing in the shadow that is Ralph, is John
Sweeney, President of the AFL-CIO.
With all these shadows being cast, it's hard to figure out what's real,
and what's not. The Shadow Conventions are supposedly 'parallel'
conventions to the Democratic and Republican Party Conventions. Billed
by their liberal supporters as protests, the reality is that they are
more excuse to cover the fact that their organizers are avoiding
participating in the actual protests.
What's even worse, is that the organizers are avoiding expressing
solidarity with the protesters. Has anyone noticed that loud
silence? Hundeds were victimized at Philadelphia by police
brutality done in secret inside the jails. And done by the
judiciary that kept them there.
Ralph, you're supposed to be the new wave! But your lips are
sealed. You were not there, and you are still hidden in the shadows.
And behind your shadow is the Labor Movement, and it's pretend
.......Sweeney Reform effort. Their strategy being to push Gore
to the left via Nader and The Greens, now in total disarray with the
nomination of Lieberman as the vice-presidential candidate for The
Democrats..
'The Shadow Conventions' were organized under the name of Arianna
Huffington, Common Cause, and other liberal support groups connected
with Nader and the Sweeney element. The idea was that with an
indoor event, that nobody would notice that they were not participating
in the outdoor protests. These are responsible people and
pragmatists. Let's not get the Nader campaign, or even Gore,
into trouble! Please!
Electorialism would be derailed by actual protest in the streets, or
even by siding strongly with those that did. Never mind that the
police violated the law in numerous ways, choosing to victimize
protesters over allowing peaceful protest. Solidarity with
street protesters? Got to be kidding?!
Ralph??? Where are you and your supporters at the demonstrations
against the US war efforts directed at Colombia, Yugoslavia, or Iraq?
Where are you guys when it comes to protesting police brutality and the
death penalty?
And where will you be after November?
Most of your support is like that of Molly Ivins and Michael Moore.
Molly says vote for you in some states, and Al in others.
Michael says that Democrats should keep voting for Democratic Party
tickets, while non-voters should start voting for Ralph and The Greens.
Wow! Non-voters voting! So many want to have their cake
and eat it too. Lets vote Gore and build the alternative to Gore
at the same time.
MESSAGE to LA protesters. Don't expect the AFL-CIO, The
Green Party, or the Nader Campaign to go to bat for you when the police
do their thing. They are all too busy trying to get votes and
make backroom deals with Democratic Party hacks.
The unions are planning no protests in the streets with youthful rabble,
and neither are The Greens. Take care of yourselves. Little
solidarity will come your way from 'the electoral alternative'. So don't
be surprised if the police throw the book at even the most innocent
effort to protest the fraud that is US electoral activity.
An alternative to the Democrats and Republicans has to be built that is
not electoral only. Are John Sweeney and Ralph Nader planning to
do that after November? Because they sure aren't doing much of
that now. They're trying to build a more liberal Democratic Party.
Tony
