Hello again Tahir, You argued that debating the goals of the revolution, 'is a >revolutionary act in itself, if sincerely carried out and if it does >help to promote the common understanding I spoke about. But goodness >me, I didn't mean that this is the whole of revolutionary practice!! I suggested it might have been a misunderstanding - I'm glad it was. When you say: >On your other point I think you are simply wrong. It is not a very important point of contention but I think you mistook what i said.It was not that he did not write about communism at a final stage but that he concentrated on the means to achieve it not the intricacies of what it would look-like when humanity got there. In relation to theory itself (praxis may be a better word) you argue that:>I believe that the theoretical exercise is extremely important. So do I - but there is always a danger (for all of us) that it can become all-consuming (especially for the intellectual sections of the movement) and that practice (even if sincerely intended) can become neglected. It is easy to theorise about the 'goals of the revolution' it is much more difficult to actually bring them about. >I think also that communism should be personally liberating - I have >experienced that myself by abandoning what I regard as a repressive >ideology and embracing the "infantile disorder" instead. Sorry I don't quite understand what you mean by that? >Marxism and the revolutionary project are at a critical point no >doubt - we need all the ideas and debate we can get to build up the >next wave. I agree. Certainly where I am here in Britain we are definitely going through a quiet period politically. Much like Marx and Engels did in the late 1850s to the 1870s. Just as this lull in the active struggle allowed Marx to put together Das Kapital so it might give us and opportunity to thoroughly work out our theoretical positions IN ORDER TO better advance the practical struggle when it comes.
