[hallyx]>You give me a good idea of what 'human nature' is, and how
>it differs
>significantly from any other animal's nature ....

[Tahir]>It differs significantly, for one thing, in the fact that
>human beings have evolved higher order cognitive processes
>and language....That sounds like a significant difference to me.

[Tom].. and this is exactly where you both quit listening to each other.

1)hallx's point obviously refers to the commonality of the same evolutionary
factors you cite, Tahir. Cognitive processes have a very slight effect upon
cellular and basic self preservation reflexes (Old Granfathers aside). All
species possess them, and H Sapien's differences are in degree, since they
are the product of evolution through many eariler species. Hallyx was
arguing that you can't escape this, and to posit their non-existence is an
error.

2)Tahir has a point in directing our attention to the "control" issue
involved in cognitive volition, hallyx. We wouldn't be in this current mess
without some "significant differences".

[Tahir]>Even by your own logic, your conclusion doesn't follow: if
>someone could show that only through socialism will each of
>the (selfish) members of the human race survive and that all
>other ways of living would lead to destruction then this
>would be enough to refute your conclusion.

[Tom] Perhaps it would. Although your absolutist use of "only" quickly
transfers the forlorn hope of this being shown to the area of fantasy. We
are all willing to listen to that elusive "someone" who can resonably prove
that theorum, however.

[Tahir]I wouldn't talk down to people in this way if I was
>presenting such hackneyed ideas and simplistic logic.

[Tom]It is probably not wise to accuse others of hackneyed ideas after
alluding to Freud. <g> I would not accuse you of simplistic logic yourself,
but you DO perhaps need to read a little anthropology if you can't
distinguish the "natural" difference between Hunter Gatherers and
Capitalists. ... it has something to do with the original "significant
differences" in evolution from the discussion above.

hallyx, don't use "hoss" when posting. It doesn't translate outside North
America, and leads to mistakenly correlating "hackamore" with "hackneyed".

Tom
