Public control of schools is not in itself the problem. Wait till voucher
legislation passes. Imagine working with folks taught in private schools
controlled by Christian reconstructionists. These folks teach that
homosexuality can be "cured" (sometimes with electic shock treatments). If
you don't accept the cure you are executed. Girls are expected to be
ladies (read door mats.) They teach that there never has been separation of
church and state in the US. They want to replace the constitution with their
interpretation of the Bible. What is very shocking to me is that followers
have never read the Bible for themselves (just study books that take small
quotes out of cotext). I, an atheist of course, have read the entire Bible
and am more familiar with it than many of these "
Our public schools in Cal. are failing because we are number one in prison
spending and 47th in education. The government, controlled by big business,
is no interested in educating our children but in making them good (read
like sheep) citizens. We need working class community control of our schools
but the private sector is not the answer.
