US capitalists need fewer and fewer educated American workers. This is
driving the demise of public education and the rise of public incarceration
in the US. The lack of a socialist tradition in US labor and politics, plus
the legacy of white supremacy, hampers working-class resistance to this
capitalist restructuring.
