There are people here who probably do have things to say on this. I hope
they will.
The Middle East, as wel as being a locale of struggles we should solidarize
with, is also a geopolitical focus of intense interest. It is a region of
colossal tectonic pressures, of fractured monoliths and unpredictable
outcomes. It's not just Israel and the Palestinians, it's oil + the Persdian
Gulf; it's a huge prerevolutionary crisis in Iran, it's struggles over water
between Syria, Iraq and Turkey, it's the continued bombardment/blockade of
Iraq, it's fundamentalism, feminism, and the fate of Arab nationalism. The
more we talk about this, the better.
