The tragedy of Kosovo is that a portion of ethnic Albanians, deluded by
racism (they had been the master race under the German Naxzis and prior to
that under tyhe Ottomans) and an ingrown and feudal-influenced culture, were
easily lured by the US promise that "we will make you master of greater
albania" to disrupt Kosovo, boycotting its institutions, to ther own
detriment and that of Serbia. Now they have - gangstetr-racist rule, NATO
occupation, and depleted uranium.
The effect of the US promise of Imperial backing for secession, which began
in the mid-80s, cannot be overtstated. Here for instance is the NY Times
account of a trip Bob Dole made to Kosovo in 1980. Remember, Kosovo is a
very small area (about the size of Greater NY and Westchester), relatively
poor despite massive capital investment (it is the only 'colony' in history
which had better facilities than the "colonial state."

HEADLINE: Albanian Protest Broken Up in Yugoslavia
BYLINE: AP
DATELINE: PRISTINA, Yugoslavia, Aug. 29
BODY:
Riot policemen used clubs and tear gas today to disperse thousands of
ethnic Albanians awaiting a United States Congressional delegation to
complain about human rights abuses.
About 10,000 people chanting ''freedom, freedom!'' and ''U.S.A., U.S.A.!''
gathered in front of a hotel where the delegation of seven Republican
Senators was expected to hold talks with leaders of the Albanian majority in
Kosovo, a southern province of Yugoslavia.
A radio report said six people were injured and six arrested.
The delegation, headed by Sen. Bob Dole of Kansas, arrived in Pristina three
hours after the clash and was driven under police escort to a hotel for a
meeting with leaders of Albanian groups. Another meeting, with leaders of the
rival Serbs, was also planned.
Ethnic Albanians, who make up 90 percent of Kosovo's 1.9 million people, are
protesting last month's decision by the Communist authorities of Serbia to
reduce Kosovo's autonomy. Kosovo is an administrative district of Serbia,
Yugoslavia's largest republic.
Accompanying Senator Dole on the trip were Senators John W. Warner of
Virginia, Jake Garn of Utah, Don Nickles of Oklahoma, Alfonse M. D'Amato of
New York, Steve Symms of Idaho and Connie Mack of Florida.
