Dear Mark

The political priority must surely be a regroupment of the left. It is more urgent
than ever that a left political alternative should emerge to challenge the global
capitalist system, which no longer merely threatens civilisation but life on the
planet itself. But for me this means a complete break with capitalism - the era in
which 'national democratic revolutions' could be posited as waystations is surely over
and the romantic-bureaucratic revolutionism which posited such notions must give way
to a more adequate philosphical notion of the human community and its potential. It is
no longer progressive to talk about completing the capitalist or agrarian revolution
within the framework of nation states. Rather, whatever remnants of feudal and
precapitalist society still exist need to be swept away in the global tide of
anti-capitalism. There are many political projects that need to be properly defined
within this overall vision. Examples for me would include: worldwide political
organisation; the promotion of global citizenship and the levels of literacy that this
entails; worldwide struggle against international capitalist institutions; struggle
for complete secularism and against patriarchy, nationalism and other forms of
obscurantism and idiocy, including, but not only in, third world countries; promotion
of solidarity between first and third world workers; sustained critique of
bureaucratic and statist notions of 'socialism'. It can be seen from the foregoing,
that at this time when the very planet on which we live is threatened by capitalist
productivism (euphemistically termed 'development') that the the maximalist programme
of the communists is the only sensible programme.

Thank you for affording the opportunity once again of stating these fundamental truths.

Tahir

Dear Friends

I wonder if you would be kind enough to do the following: in one paragraph of not
more than 200 words, set out your main political priorities.

This is for a CrashList poll of the cyber-left's great and good. The underlying
intent is as serious as possible. Your ideas will be promoted, or not used at all;
and some quasi-statistical attempt will be made to weight, adjust and deliver the
results. A well-known western financial newspaper is participating. I do hope you
will participate.

If you are curious about the CrashList, the website is:

I look forward to hearing from you (please reply to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]).
