The problem with the sentence above is the word [despite], which should read
[due to]

It simply can't. It could hardly do it during the 1955-1989 period, when many
of the traits that kept our economy partly de-linked in the sense of Samir Amin
were still alive, less can we retain surplus in this neo-liberal economy which,
in fact, simply means a massive wave of plunder and extraction of surplus.
